Still Stitching!

Don't worry, I haven't abandoned this blog already! It's slightly annoying that I can't show you pictures of the projects I'm on with at the moment because they're for exchanges/gifts! Another week or two and I can share pics and stuff, I'll have an update on one of my wips in a few days time :)

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 15 Progress

This is a big project! A Beatrix Potter growth chart I'm planning to give my friend for her baby's 1st birthday in December.

Here is what the finished piece will look like:

And here is today's progress which I'm quite happy with compared to my efforts the last couple of days!

So that's it for the first part of the challenge, now to finish them all :D

I won't be posting daily for a while now but I will post whenever I have a good update or a finish or a new design to share with you, I'm hoping I'll have more time for designing now that this bit is done.

Thanks for following along so far and I hope you continue to do so as I'm enjoying sharing my progress with you all :D

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 14 Progress

Well I did manage to get in a stitch or two, nothing much to see as I had so many visitors and stuff yesterday and then I went out and got drunk so not much stitching time :P

This is Owlscornu by Barbara Ana, here is my pic, I'm stitching it on some hand dyed purpley-blue evenweave I got in a Polstitches grab bag, yummy!

Last start of the challenge today, it's quite a large project so hopefully I'll get a good start on it this evening :D

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 8 Finished

Yes, this is the reason for my lack of progress on project 13! I really wanted to get this biscornu finished for a friend's birthday on Sunday and so I finished project 8, Buzzing Around Biscornu.

Here are some pics :)

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 13 Progress

Didn't get much done on project 13 as I was working on finishing another one for a friend (details in a separate post).

I've made a change to my planned design as I can't bear to stitch another one of those sappy ornaments lol! Instead I'm doing Love Miniature by Agnes Delage-Calvet. I wanted a design where I could try out some of my new threads and fabric and I'm very pleased so far with the colours I've chosen:

I'm a bit behind on my posting thanks to a late night last night and it being my birthday today so now is the first chance I've had to sit down for a few minutes! I'm going out again tonight so I dont think I'll get much of a start on Owlscornu, my next project, but I'm determined to get a few stitches into it!

Also I got £30 Hobbycraft vouchers for my birthday today so I get to have another stash spree! So excited :D

Back later or tomorrow morning with today's project progress, kind of sad the new starts phase is coming to an end tomorrow but I've got lots of lovely things to finish now and it will be nice to work on something for longer than one day at a time, my HAED SAL is calling me!

Thursday, 13 January 2011

As it's my birthday tomorrow I decided to treat myself to some new goodies, I've been waiting impatiently for them to arrive all week and just got them now! hurrah!

I've been wanting to try some hand dyed threads and fabric for ages so had a bit of a spree at polstitches. I also found West End Embroidery who also had an impressive thread range so I ended up buying a few there too!

I also bought a Lizzie Kate chart called Dog Lessons for People which I thought was very cute <3

Here are pics of my new goodies:

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 12 Progress

I don't have much to show you tonight I'm afraid, today I started the toadstool pin cushion from Cross Stitcher magazine, it's very cute! All I've managed to do tonight is the very top part of the toadstool, the evening has been full of distractions for me including such delights as wallpapering the living room and trying to persuade one of my dogs that eating a rugby ball is not a good idea :)

I've also been messing around on the Champions Online character creator which is hours of entertainment for wannabe superheroes like myself (lol) and also doing a bit of cross stitch designing. I want to do a UO themed piece as I'm playing it so much at the moment so we'll see how that goes.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, here is a picture of some red!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 11 Finished

This one really sums me up today, "Whatever" by Julie Jackson of Subversive Cross Stitch

Work has been, well... hard work! and I really didn't know if I'd be able to stitch tonight but when I saw this one in the pile I thought I could probably manage it hehe! It's nice and simple (a bit like me!) and was very quick to stitch also, I did mine on 18count aida using Madeira threads, Such a relief to get back to something fun after yesterday's awful ornament :D

Also, I KNEW buying a teeny tiny frame would come in handy at some point! was a pain in the arse trying to get it in there though :D

I'm going to take this to work with me tomorrow and hang it behind my desk, other people have sappy photos and half dead pot plants, I have my cross stitch! <3

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 10 Finished

Well here we are at day 10, and my second of three "learn a new stitch" type kits by Victoria Sampler, I've been dreading this one the most as it's my least favourite of the three, in fact I've been wondering all evening what possessed me to buy them! They're totally not my style although it's nice to learn new stitches :)

Anybody else ever look at something in your stash and wonder "what the hell was I thinking?" I want to hear about it! :D

Here's a pic:

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 9 Finished

My second finish of the challenge today! woohoo!

It was only a small project, a bib for my friend's baby girl who I'm going to say a proper hello to tonight, hope she likes it!

It's a bib by DMC which I got at a bargain price from ebay, stitched a butterfly and heart motifs from Cross Stitch Crazy issue 147 using Madeira thread.

A couple of piccies for you!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 8 Progress

Here is today's project, it's a biscornu by Barbara Ana a freebie design called "Buzzing Around Biscornu"

Here is what it will look like finished:

Here is my progress so far, stitching on a biscuity colour aida, 16ct I believe, using Madeira threads for a change:

It's a lot tinier than I expected!!!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 7 Progress

Sorry this update is a little later than usual but, well, it was Friday so ended up being a very late night followed by a massive lie-in hehe!

Project 7 is the One-drink Woman Subversive Sampler by Kell at Kincavel Krosses. I'm stitching this on 18ct green aida and using DMC Jewel Effects E815 for the wine, bloody horrible stuff to work with but looks shiny and pretty!

Here are the pics:

I'll be back later with an update on Project 8, might start a biscornu for this one!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 6 Progress

Today I started another of my own designs, a Mario Brothers sampler! I've been really excited about this and can't wait to see it done, didn't manage to do as much as I would have liked tonight unfortunately due to computer game distractions hehe!

Here is what the design will look like when it's finished

And here is my progress so far, stitching on 16ct sky blue aida:

I haven't decided yet what tomorrow's project will be, I'll see what mood I'm in when I get home from work :D

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 5 Progress

Another first for me today, tried a bit of hardanger! It's all new to me and the kit I have is rather awful (either that or I'm completely rubbish :D)

I would have preferred a more even fabric to learn on but this is linen so it's hard to keep the stitches lined up, I'm enjoying it apart from that even though it's full of mistakes already! I've finished the inner border today, it will eventually have some kloster blocks and cut pieces and an outer border the same as the inner one.

Tomorrow should be more exciting as I'm starting my Mario Sampler! woohoo!

TUSAL - January Update

I'm taking part in the TUSAL (totally useless stitch along) organised by Daffycat

It's basically a monthly photo of the participants ORT (old ratty threads!) jars. I've not had one before so it makes a refreshing change to have all my thread ends and odd bits in a jar rather than stuck to my clothes or down the side of the sofa :D

Here is my first pic hehe!

Sorry about the creepy face in the background, it's the telly, promise!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 4 Progress

Today's project is one of my own designs, I've always wanted to try blackwork but didn't really see any charts that appealed to me to start with as I wanted something small and fairly simple. I came up with a robot design that I think is perfect for my first go, only managed a little bit today but I'm loving him already!

Stitched on 18 count dove grey aida using Madeira thread 0707

I apologise that the photo isn't that great, must dig out my camera rather than using my phone!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 3 Finished

Well a little later than normal, here is my day 3 update on the challenge. I didnt start stitching until late this evening and as it was only a small one I couldnt stop until I'd finished it! My first finish of the new year, woo!

It was a lovely little kit to stitch, one of 3 I bought at a craft show to learn some new stitches, this one was Rice Stitch. It was so weird stitching a Christmas ornament just after Christmas but there we go, something nice for this year!

There were lovely threads in this kit, Caron Wildflowers Holiday and Pine Forest and Kreinik Metallic thread, lovely :) there's also a little bell charm to finish it off nicely.

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 2 Progress

Project 2 on the list is Kell's Bog Off Sampler, you can see the pattern here at Kincavel Krosses

I've started on the border first as I'm using variegated thread, first time I've ever used it and I'm very pleased with the effect so far! I'm using Anchor 1203 which is a mixture of pinks and reds and stitching on 18 count cream aida.

Here is my progress so far :D

I'm still undecided what colour to do the lettering at the moment, I want to see the overall effect of the finished border but I have a feeling it may be pink! My plan is to make a door hanger by backing the design with pink felt and adding a ribbon or braid loop :)

Check back again tomorrow for Project 3!

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 1 Progress

Well here is my progress on today's project, I'm fairly pleased with it and to be honest don't want to put it down!

Hope everyone else got good starts today! Looking forward to starting the "Bog Off" sampler tomorrow :D

Crazy January Challenge 2011 - Project 1

So today is the start of the challenge! The first project on my list is for the Heaven and Earth Designs 2011 SAL.

There were several pieces to choose from but I chose Blue Rose Fairy by Meredith Dillman

The colours in this design are awesome and I can't wait to get started on her! Size is 187 x 185 stitches and I'll be stitching her on 25ct Zweigart Lugana in Silver Blue, 2 over 1 full crosses. We'll be getting a new page every 2 months, 6 in total so hope I can keep up :D

Check back later today for a progress pic!
