At last I have a needle book!

Although I've been stitching and sewing for years, for some reason I've never gotten around to getting little accessories such as a needle book. I think one reason is because the patterns and designs of the ones you see in the shops aren't very inspiring.

I decided to design one today as it's something I'm looking to sell in my etsy shop and at the craft fairs, I thought that I'd give it a go and then I could keep my prototype for myself and stop stabbing myself every time I put my hand in my sewing box :P

Here's how it turned out:

I added a loop inside the front cover for scissors, although for the shop version I'm going to use two loops and have them so that the scissors lies diagonally as I've noticed it does fall out rather easily.

I also added a pocket to the inside of the back cover which could hold a few buttons or a bobbin of thread, I'd like this to be something I can carry around in my bag as you never know when you'll need a needle and thread!

I used cotton fabric for the cover with interfacing to stiffen it and there are 4 felt pages. The shop version will be prettified a bit with buttons over the ribbon ends etc, this one was basically to see if the design worked and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

I mentioned a giveaway on my last post, I haven't had time to sort it out this weekend but it will be up by the end of next week so keep an eye out :)

Elephants, Yeah!

Hello! Happy Friday to you all :D

I've had a very chilled evening, lounging around with a glass of wine and my sewing box handy. I've started working on a new range of animal themed felt and fabric brooches, mam and me decided we'd like to do a few craft fairs this year so this is one of my ideas for quick and fabulous products we can make for those! They will also be available in my etsy shop once I'm happy with the designs :)
Here's a sneak preview of one design, an adorable heffalump!

I'd love to know what you think, comments and feedback are always welcome :D

Also... 51 followers!! :O I still find it hard to believe that people enjoy reading my ramblings so I'm really chuffed that I now have this many followers! I shall hold a giveaway to celebrate so keep your eye out for a post on that sometime over the weekend :)

If you're wondering about the title of the post, my friend once linked me this video and now every time elephants are mentioned I get the reply "elephants, yeah?" enjoy!

TUSAL and lots of embroidery!

First of all here is my latest TUSAL update, still looking quite full as I didn't empty the jar last month :)

Now, I've been very busy this weekend catching up on the "all in the details" embroidery class run by Wild Olive. The class started on 20th June but as that was Glastonbury week I didn't manage to start anything until Friday.

I'm still behind but making good progress with 3 projects completed!

1) Let it Glow Lantern
Don't have a candle for it yet so can't take a picture of it lit up, will add that pic to this post once I get one.

2) Bitty Baubles
This project was all about adding bling to your embroidery, I started out by drawing a basic spiral shape then basically made it up as I went along! It was great to find something to do with all the beads and sequins which have been hanging around since my jewellery making days :)

Some detail pics:

3) Sophisticated Stitches
This project was all about learning some new fancy stitches, which I've been itching to do! The instructions were awesome (even I could follow them!) and I managed to complete all of the new stitches with no problem. Most of them reminded me either of plant stems or flowers so that's what I ended up stitching. I didn't use a pattern for this, just went at it and hoped for the best!

I'm really enjoying the class, learned so much already! I'll be embroidering on my clothes for the next project, look out wardrobe!
