TUSAL & IHSW - January 2012

I'm joining Daffycat's Totally Useless Stitch-a-long again this year, hopefully I'll keep it up for the whole year this time! I've chosen a martini glass for this year :D

I'm also taking part in the International Hermit & Stitch Weekends this year :)

Despite 2 nights out and a hangover at the weekend I did manage to make some progress on "Above the Clouds"

Hope everyone else is getting lots of stitching done! I'll be back later this week to show you some cross stitched earrings I've been working on, just need to get some decent photos! x

What I've been stitching :)

As well as working on WIPocalypse stitching I've managed a couple of new starts this month too! I just can't resist the thought of starting something totally new :)

Above the clouds - Tereza Wentzler
I bought this kit years ago when I first started stitching and rediscovered it in my stash recently. I'm loving the colours in this and it's quite small so should go pretty quickly:

Dog Lessons for People - Lizzie*Kate
I fell in love with this design last year but never got round to starting it, I'm stitching it on 32ct vintage Exemplar Linen using the recommended threads, it's lovely to stitch :)

I've also signed up for the Chatelaine Mystery SAL for this year, I'm waiting for my threads to arrive so haven't made a start yet but in the meantime I've gone a bit fabric mad, evenweaves in particular. Here's what I've picked up this month:

28 count Annabelle in Ice Blue - I'll probably use this for the Chatelaine SAL
32 count Murano in Ivory
25 count Dublin Linen in a dusky pink shade

Hope you're all doing well and enjoying the new year :)

WIPocalypse: the beginning!

It's WIPocalypse update time already! the full list of projects I'm planning to work on is in the sidebar but for this update I started with my oldest WIP, probably the first kit I ever bought which has been languishing unfinished in my WIP drawer for a good 15 years!

There was only the white to stitch plus a few missed stitches here and there and a tiny amount of backstitch but I'm pleased to have finally finished it after all this time.

The reason it's been left so long is the horrible hoop mark you can see in the "before" photo, I'd left the hoop on for probably a year (come on, I was only 16!) and when I saw that mark I didn't see the point in finishing it but somehow couldn't bear to throw it away :)

I hope all you other WIPocalypse stitchers are making progress!

First Finish of 2012

Don't get excited, it's only little! I saw this cute stormtrooper pattern on Cross me not which is full of awesome and unusual little patterns. This is my first time stitching on plastic canvas and I quite enjoyed it, I am foreseeing an alternative christmas tree this year full of random plastic canvas stitched ornaments! :)

I've added my WIPocalypse list to my sidebar and have all my projects neatly sorted and ready to go, now I just have to choose which one to tackle first *sigh*.

The list will definitely grow as I splashed out today on threads and linen for Lizzie*Kate pattern Dog Lessons for People which I'm looking forward to starting <3

2012 - Let the Fun Begin :D

Well, the new year has arrived, after 3 months of mayhem I'm finally getting the stitching urge again as well as the urge to update my poor neglected blog :)

I'm going to go a bit easier on myself this year and focus on having fun with my crafting and stitching and re-acquainting myself with all the fabulous blogs I've been missing out on over the past few months.

Thanks to this awesome post from Daffycat I've found a couple of SAL's and challenges to sign up to to get me back into the swing of things:

TUSAL
Hosted by Daffycat <3 hopefully I'll see it through to the end of the year this time, all you have to do is find a nice jar or similar and save your odd bits of thread from your stitching and post a picture of the jar once per month on the new moon. It's a great way to get to know other stitchy bloggers as loads of people sign up for it.

2012 WIPocalypse
The aim of this year long challenge is to work on WIP's and UFO's, what I like about this challenge is there's no requirement to finish anything, just make some progress and post an update once per month. I'm going to tackle the WIP drawer of despair sometime over the next few days and come up with a list of projects I'm going to focus on.

I'm also hoping to get involved with a couple of exchanges through the facebook group Cross Stitch Friends in the UK, I've had a few successful exchanges with that group already and it's always nice to receive a lovely stitched pressie :)

I've made a list of things I'd like to do this year, I don't do new year resolutions because I never stick to them but this is just a harmless list :P

  1. Crochet a blanket
  2. Get my Etsy shop updated and properly stocked and maybe even sell something!
  3. Learn to use my shiny new camera properly
  4. Post on my blog once a week
  5. Make myself some clothes out of all the pretty fabric I keep buying and not using
  6. Learn a new craft

Phew! I think that will do for now, what has everyone else got planned for the year ahead?

Flossy x
